Philosophy of Education

At The Cypress School, we believe early childhood is a time of wonder, curiosity, and limitless potential. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our philosophy centers on the belief that children are capable, competent learners who construct knowledge through relationships, exploration, and meaningful experiences.

We view children as active participants in their learning. By honoring their interests, questions, and ideas, we empower children to help shape the direction of their education. This sense of ownership fosters confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our learning environments are thoughtfully designed to act as a teacher—inviting exploration, collaboration, and self-discovery. Through open-ended materials and project-based investigations, children engage in deep, meaningful learning that builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Teachers and children are collaborators in the learning process. Educators listen, observe, and guide learning by asking thoughtful questions and designing experiences that extend children’s thinking. Families are valued partners, and strong relationships between home and school enrich each child’s experience.

Documentation of learning is an essential practice at The Cypress School. By making learning visible, we support reflection, celebrate growth, and deepen understanding.

Our goal is to nurture, inspire, and empower each child—providing a strong foundation for confident learning, thoughtful citizenship, and joyful discovery.
